Hi everyone. My name is Mrs. Joslyn and I conduct the middle school jazz band. The Middle School Jazz Band is an extracurricular band of students in grades six through eight that performs a variety of jazz, blues, and pop music. So not things that you would necessarily play in a traditional band setting, but things that you would hear, you know, maybe on the radio or jazz pieces or blues pieces, historical pieces, things like that.

Students in grades six through eight who are enrolled in band or orchestra and already play a jazz instrument, are eligible to participate in jazz band. Typically, we don't have flute players or clarinet clarinet players in jazz band, but if you're really, really interested, come and talk to me and we sometimes can figure out a way to get you involved.

If you are someone who plays the piano, the guitar, or the bass guitar, you're also welcome to join. But you must be enrolled in band or orchestra on your main instrument. So your main instrument is not going to be piano, guitar, bass guitar. It might be saxophone or violin or something, but if you play piano, guitar, bass guitar outside of school but you are in band or orchestra, you are also welcome to join jazz band.

Jazz band meets on Monday evenings from 530 to 645. We usually start rehearsals the last week of September. We go through October and November, no rehearsals in December, and then we start again in January, and our concert is usually held in April.
